Carved wooden human skull ramp ball, 1800

Old banister ball representing a human skull in the spirit of memento mori. The object is made of carved blackened wood, and presented on a black turned wooden base. Found in a private mansion in Lyon at the end of the 19th century, the staircase was composed entirely of carved wooden human femurs, as well as this magnificent banister ball in the shape of a skull.
In its original condition with traces of age and wear.
