Chinese Hardstone Sculpture – Serpentine or Lardstone


A beautiful handcrafted Chinese sculpture depicting the god of longevity, Shou Lao, surrounded by cranes, a protective dragon, a snail, and symbolic flowers. The work is exquisitely detailed, with a smooth polish and a play of natural colors ranging from dark green to golden honey.

Material: Natural hardstone, likely serpentine or lardstone (dense soapstone)

Origin: China, probably Fujian or Canton region

Period: Mid-20th century

Base: Lightweight carved lacquered wood, removable (damaged).
