Bronze bas-relief " The Adoration of the Shepherds ", Italy, XVI-XVII century
Very old plate in silvered bronze, bas-relief representing a biblical scene. This is The Worship of the Shepherds. The theme of the Nativity is very recurrent during the Italian Catholic Renaissance. The scene presents five shepherds and a woman, surrounding the Virgin Mary and Joseph who bend over the child Jesus.
Background of classical architecture in the background and inscription in Latin " GORIA IN EXCELSIS DEOS ". Note that the quote has a typo, it should be “ GLORIA ” not “ GORIA_5cc7581 3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_”. Either way, the phrase translates to “ Glory to God ”.
The bas-relief has a very beautiful silver patina, and dates from the 16th or 17th century.In its juice with traces of seniority and wear.
