Turned wooden pill gilding box with pedestal, apothecary item, 19th century
An antique apothecary's box once used for gilding pills. The box is made of turned wood on a pedestal, with a particularly attractive pointed lid. Pharmacists used this type of box to coat pills with a light layer of gold. This gave rise to the expression "gilding the pill".
In its original condition, with traces of age and wear, and a few traces of treated woodworm.
This is an authentic vintage object that could complete a cabinet of curiosities or stylize your interior decoration.
