Wooden and horn rice sickle, Khmer Art, Cambodia, late 19th century

Antique Cambodian rice sickle made of wood and horn for harvesting rice. The wavy shape represents a naga, a mythical snake that protects nature and water, guaranteeing fertility in Southeast Asia. The sickle features a wooden handle ending in the snake's head in buffalo horn, and a metal blade.

 

In its original condition, with traces of age and wear.
