Antique dental tongue depressor Automaton France c.1910 Medical
Early model “Automaton” mechanical tongue depressor, a French-made medical and dental instrument dating from the early 20th century (circa 1905–1925).
This instrument was used in dentistry and ENT medicine for oral cavity examinations, allowing the tongue to be held down in a stable position thanks to its adjustable spring-loaded mechanical system. The entire device can be completely dismantled and the mechanism is in working order.
The item is presented in its original box, marked “Fabrication Française – Comptoir Français de Fournitures Dentaires” (Made in France – French Dental Supplies Counter), with registration number R.C. Nancy 9212.
All the original parts are present, with no missing or broken pieces, which is unusual for an antique medical instrument of this type. The metal is stainless steel, with a uniform patina due to age.
Today, this item is sought after as an antique dental instrument, medical collector's item, medical curiosity, or piece for a cabinet of curiosities.
