19th-century reliquary – 11 relics of martyrs – ex ossibus – Paperolles

Rare 19th-century Catholic reliquary, probably Italian, displayed under glass in a rich setting of quillwork and gilded filigree, contained in a large carved gilded wooden frame.

The piece contains 11 first-class relics (ex ossibus, bone fragments), carefully arranged and identified by their handwritten Latin cartouches.

In the center is the main relic of Saint Patience, martyr, surrounded by ten other martyred saints.

Origin: Italy (religious Baroque style)

Materials: ex ossibus bones, gilded paperolles, filigree, glass, carved gilded wooden frame

Condition:

Gilded wooden frame: very attractive appearance with minor wear and small accidents, chips and natural patina due to age.

Glass: intact, no cracks.

Interior decoration: paperolles and filigree in excellent condition, well attached, stable and solid; no elements move or come loose.

Overall in excellent condition for an item that is nearly two centuries old.
