Chinese plate, hand-painted, landscape decoration. Early 20th century. Signed.
Antique Chinese Plate – Landscape and Fisherman Scene – Circa 1920 – Signed
A very beautiful antique Chinese ceramic plate, hand-painted in underglaze blue. It depicts a traditional Chinese landscape composed of rocks, a rural house, a large tree, mountains in the background, and a figure fishing by the water's edge.
The scene evokes a literati painting, in the spirit of Chinese ink scrolls: a refined, poetic design, dominated by nature. The solitary fisherman, a classic motif in Chinese culture, symbolizes retreat, wisdom, and living in harmony with the natural world.
The reverse features a hand-painted inscription in four Chinese characters (化武年製 – “Made during the Hua Wu period”), typical of southern Chinese handcrafted pieces from the 1920s to 1940s.
