Fruit-shaped betel nut box, embossed silver, China 1900
Old beautiful betel box from Southeast Asia. The box represents a squash-style fruit with a lid made of the leaves and stem of the fruit, made of embossed and chiseled ethnic low-grade silver. No hallmark.
The decorative details and precision are superb: plants, Chinese symbols of prosperity, etc.
Betel is a substance derived from betel leaves and nuts from the same tree, used in particular in Asia for its tonic effect. It is used as a chewing preparation.
Good condition, in its own juice with traces of age and wear, original patina. The silver titration being low, the patina is not the same as for 925 silver.
This is an antique object that can complete a cabinet of curiosities or an Asian Art collection.
