Dragon betel box, low-grade repoussé silver, China 1900
A beautiful antique betel box or snuffbox originating from Southeast Asia. The box is octagonal with a hinged lid, made of low-grade, embossed and chased silver. No hallmarks.
The decorative details and precision are superb: a dragon on the lid, floral motifs, foliage, and Chinese symbols of prosperity.
In good condition, showing signs of age and wear, with its original patina. Due to the low silver content, the patina is not the same as that of 925 silver.
This is an antique object that would be a valuable addition to a cabinet of curiosities or an Asian art collection.
