Miniature frame. Portrait of a woman, Madame Dugazon. 19th century.
Antique miniature frame – Portrait of Madame Dugazon (Louise-Rosalie Lefebvre) – Late 19th century – Diameter 10 cm – Louis XVI style
Charming antique miniature portrait depicting Madame Dugazon, whose real name was Louise-Rosalie Lefebvre (1755–1821), a famous 18th-century French mezzo-soprano and actress. She was an iconic figure of the Opéra-Comique, creating over 60 roles and giving her name to a female character type in French opera. This portrait shows her from the bust, wearing a floral chignon and a period dress with a corset adorned with pink ribbons, typical of the fashion during the reign of Louis XVI.
The work is protected behind glass and framed in a finely crafted round gilt-brass medallion with a hanging loop on the back. The process used is chromolithography, a color printing technique highly prized in the 19th century for reproducing works of art with great finesse.
