Dogtooth and bone necklace, Papua New Guinea, mid-20th century

An ancient ornamental necklace made of dog teeth in close rows, knotted together with plant fibers to form an oval necklace. The teeth are sandwiched between beads, probably made from bone.

 

In its original juice, with traces of age and wear.

 

This is an authentic ethnic object that could complete a cabinet of curiosities or a collection of Oceanian Art.
