Dagger / Stylus / Ball-breaker XIXth century. Horn handle
Ancient dagger from the 19th century, stylet/stiletto type, possibly a virtue dagger or a pique-couille
(used by prostitutes), discreet civilian weapons typical of the late 19th century.
This piece features a very thin triangular blade, designed for piercing, and a handle composed of a series of polished horn segments, alternating between blonde and brown shades.
This is a characteristic construction of small European stilettos from this period.
The dagger fits into a tubular metal sheath, finished with a spherical button, making it discreet and easy to conceal (as was the intention with daggers known as “virtue daggers” or “picouilles”).
