Antique carved walnut pediment – Grotesque leafy mascaroon – Late 19th century Europe
Superb antique carved walnut pediment depicting a grotesque leafy mascaron. European work dating from the late 19th century. Entirely hand-carved from fine wood with a beautiful period patina.
This type of pediment traditionally decorated the tops of important pieces of furniture (wardrobes, sideboards, beds) or served as an architectural element above a door or lintel. The carved face is particularly expressive, with accentuated features typical of 19th-century mascaron in the Neo-Renaissance style.

The object shows signs of age: cracks, small surface defects, natural marks related to time. Several old woodworm holes are visible throughout the piece. These attacks are old and stabilized.
The wood has been fully treated against wood-boring insects (woodworms, longhorn beetles, etc.) to ensure its preservation and prevent any residual activity.
