Original 19th Century Engraving – "The Lion" by Édouard Traviès (Edition after Buffon)
A superb steel engraving, enhanced with hand-colored details, depicting a male lion in a majestic pose. This work follows in the tradition of Georges-Louis Leclerc de Buffon's writings, which were brilliantly re-illustrated by the great artists of the following century.
The work realistically captures the power of the feline, its magnificent mane, and its distinctive expression. At the bottom of the plate is the simple and elegant inscription "The Lion."
Drawn by Édouard Traviès (1809–1876), considered one of the finest natural history painters of his time, and engraved by Jean-Jacques Outhwaite.
Foxing on the plate attests to the document's authenticity.
Ideal for collectors of natural history art, admirers of Buffon's work, or enthusiasts of classical decor and felines.
