Original 19th Century Engraving – “New Guinea Eclectus” (W.T. Greene, 1884)
Superb chromoxylography (color wood engraving) depicting a pair of New Guinea Eclectus parrots (Eclectus roratus). This complex technique of the time produces colors of exceptional brilliance and depth, typical of luxury editions of the late 19th century. The work was drawn by the famous naturalist illustrator Alexander Francis Lydon (1836–1917) and printed by Benjamin Fawcett (1808–1893), the undisputed master of color wood engraving. Very good overall condition. The colors (bright red for the female, vivid green for the male) are perfectly preserved. There may be some slight foxing in the margins, which is normal for paper of this age. Ideal for bird enthusiasts, tropical bird collectors, or lovers of British naturalist art.
