Rare Jardinière Signed Eugène Collinot – Circa 1870 – Glazed Ceramic – Floral and Butterfly Decoration
A superb antique jardinière in glazed ceramic, made around 1870, by Eugène-Victor Collinot (1834-1889), a famous 19th-century French ceramicist renowned for his work inspired by Islamic, Oriental, and Japanese art.
This unique rectangular piece is hand-decorated with flowering branches, butterflies, and an insect, on a splendid deep blue background. The interior is left unfinished with a beautiful patina, contrasting elegantly with the rich exterior decoration.
The underside bears the handwritten signature “EC” and a number, as well as the intaglio stamp “TOUJOURS,” characteristic of his work.
