Bird in a Shell - Rare Polychrome Vienna Bronze Listed as No. 448
Exceptional collectible piece in Vienna bronze depicting a baby bird emerging from its shell. This model is a precious example of 19th-century Austrian craftsmanship, combining naturalistic precision with great poetry.
The object retains traces of its original polychromy (cold painting), a fragile technical feature highly sought after by collectors as it attests to the superior quality of the piece. The bird's plumage and the irregular edges of the shell are chiseled with remarkable finesse.
The bird and the shell are currently detached. The screws that attached it to the original base are missing, and there is a small mounting hole on the side of the shell (historical attachment point). The piece has an authentic antique patina.
Complete markings: Signed “GESCHÜTZT” with model number 448 and a period foundry stamp.
