Ostentatious reliquary, corozo and bone, mid-20th century, Saint Louis-Marie de Montfort
Ostentatious Catholic devotional reliquary, dated after 1947, dedicated to Saint Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort.
The date is confirmed by the word “Saint” appearing on the interior label, as Louis-Marie de Montfort was canonized on July 20, 1947. The object must therefore date from after this date.
The reliquary contains an old piece of paper bearing the printed inscription:
“Fabric that touched the bones of Saint Louis-Marie de Montfort.”
This is a contact relic (brandea), consisting of a piece of fabric that came into contact with the saint's relics.
Small, ostentatious reliquary on a pedestal, topped with a cross.
The mount is made of corozo combined with light-colored bone elements, in a simple, devotional style typical of post-war French religious tabletterie.
The protective glass is made of transparent Plexiglas.
An object of popular piety intended for private devotion, display in a showcase, or a religious art collection.
