Boarding school souvenir 1852 Mazenay – diorama under glass, Reliquary
A small diorama under glass, a souvenir from a French boarding school dated 1852, resembling a school reliquary. Made from natural materials (colored sand, straw, grasses, pigments), it depicts a rural landscape with a figure, a house, and trees. The back bears a handwritten inscription: "Souvenir of the whole family, made at the Mazenay boarding school. Eugénie Chalnot. 1852."
The original frame is made of molded, blackened wood in the Napoleon III style, reinforcing its reliquary-like quality and making it a curiosity. A typical piece of work by young girls in boarding schools during the 19th century.
