Court sword, late 17th century, Louis XIV era.
An authentic antique court sword dating from the late 17th century, the reign of Louis XIV (circa 1680–1710).
This is a civilian sword worn with formal attire, used for both dueling and everyday carry. It marks the transition between the large rapiers of the early period and the lighter court swords of the 18th century.
The guard is made of iron with two shell guards. The grip is covered with an original, antique leather (or cord) wrapping, displaying a beautiful patina. The sword is in excellent condition, with no visible modern restoration.
The blade is straight and rigid, designed for thrusting (point work), typical of this period. It shows normal signs of old oxidation and wear, with no breaks or alterations.
